Terry Osborne is a prairie landscape artist and has been a high school art teacher at Lumsden High School since 1983.
Terry was born and educated in Regina. He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus
in 1974 and a Bachelor of Education in 1980 from the University of Regina. He received a variety of scholarships, awards and grants throughout his years of study, including the Illingworth Kerr Landscape Award for Painting in 1973, a Saskatchewan Arts
Board Assistance Grant for a ten-month painting and study project in France, which he completed in 1975, and, later, a grant from the Saskatchewan Arts Board for a studio construction project in 1981.
His diverse art exhibitions span a period of
nearly thirty years. Many of his paintings and drawings have been purchased by organizations and private individuals across Canada and outside the country.
Over the years, Terry has conducted dozens of workshops in painting, sketching and clay
for children, adults and senior citizens in Regina and in towns in rural Saskatchewan. Contact with the prairie environment has been a constant source of this artist's inspiration.
Throughout his years of painting, Terry's work has focused on
two elements - the sky and the texture of the landscape. At 52 years of age, in his newest works in oils and enamels, he has distilled these two elements to capture the essential boldness and beauty of the prairie world. His works, on large wood panels,
are non-traditional textural applications of enamels, combined with traditional painting techniques in oil. The result is a surprising and original view of sky and earth, which leads the viewer into distant horizons of other possible landscapes.
